Officer Shendy Connects With Local Youth

Updated: Oct 7, 2022

Sarah Shendy visited and spoke with our Horizon Science Academy HS youth, connecting with them on a personal level through her background as a Muslim-American, and speaking a foreign language. She shared her story, speaking about her different career paths and ultimately turning dreams to reality. These stories truly inspired and challenged our youth to become ambitious about their dreams. Many students saved her information to contact her in the future about positions in Law Enforcement and opportunities they didn't know were available to them.

The highlight of the visit was Sarah speaking on almost failing college her freshman year, because she was taking classes that weren't of interest of her. She eventually changed her major, went to the police academy; doing what was best for her, led to her graduating on the Dean's list and becoming a sworn in Officer. She has been on the police force for over 14 years, and was the first woman, under 40, to be elected as the Director of Law Enforcement of Recruitment for the state of Ohio.

She was also recently was named as a 40 Under 40 Award recipient for 2022. The 40 Under 40 Award program recognizes 40 international law enforcement professionals under the age of 40 from around the world who demonstrate leadership and exemplify commitment to their profession. IACP will officially celebrate and honor award winners Oct. 17 at its annual conference and exposition in Dallas.

Her story was phenomenal and she was an inspiration to everyone in the room!
