Saturday May 3, 2025

At Lead The Way, we are proud to support students as they discover their passions and take meaningful action toward their futures. This month, we are thrilled to shine the spotlight on Timia Poindexter, a remarkable junior whose ambition and initiative are already making a powerful impact in the field of healthcare.

Exploring Healthcare with Purpose

In November 2024, Timia expressed a clear goal, she wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. However, like many students at the start of their journey, she was unsure how to gain the hands-on experience needed to get started. Recognizing her potential, her Post-Secondary Advisor recommended she apply to the Versiti Blood Leadership Academy, a long-time LTW partner dedicated to developing future healthcare leaders through education, mentorship, and practical experiences. Timia seized the opportunity and began connecting with program advisors right away, eager to grow her knowledge and leadership skills.

Taking Initiative: Hosting Her First Blood Drive

Fast forward to May 3, 2025, and Timia had already reached a significant milestone, she successfully hosted her first Blood Donation Drive in partnership with the Versiti Blood Leadership Academy. In her role as event leader, she organized and promoted the drive, collaborated with Versiti staff, and educated her peers and local community about the critical need for blood donations and the life-saving outcomes they support.

This hands-on experience not only demonstrated her organizational and leadership abilities but also her deep commitment to service and community health.

Building Credentials: Passing the STNA Exam

In addition to leading her first health initiative, Timia also earned a key professional credential. Just one week before her blood drive, she successfully passed the State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) exam, an important certification that lays the foundation for a career in nursing and other clinical professions.

By securing her STNA license while still in high school, Timia has positioned herself for early entry into the healthcare workforce with a competitive edge and valuable hands-on training.

A Future Full of Possibility

Timia’s journey reflects the best of what Lead The Way stands for: youth who are driven, proactive, and prepared to lead. She is not only building a strong academic and professional foundation but also uplifting her community along the way. We are incredibly proud of Timia’s achievements and can’t wait to see how she continues to grow and make a difference in the healthcare field. Her story serves as an inspiration to other LTW students, and a reminder that with support, mentorship, and hard work, the possibilities are endless.

Congratulations, Timia! We’re cheering you on every step of the way, continue to Lead The Way!
