On Friday, May 9, 2025, Coachs Frederick Lee and Wailly Tamayo proudly represented Lead The Way at West High School’s Dual Graduate Recognition Ceremony, an inspiring celebration honoring students who achieved the extraordinary milestone of graduating from both high school and college in the same academic year.

Honoring Our Lead The Way Scholars

Among those recognized were three exceptional Lead The Way students:

  • Vanessa Galvan-SalinasVanessa earned her associate degree from Columbus State Community College and will continue her academic journey at The Ohio State University, where she plans to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Aerospace.

  • Montrea ForrestA passionate advocate for early learning, Montrea completed her associate degree and will attend Wright State University, where she plans to major in Early Childhood Education.

  • Chi-Lynn RoddyChi-Lynn will bring her commitment to justice and community safety to Capital University, where she will major in Criminal Justice.

Each of these students demonstrated remarkable discipline, determination, and time management—balancing the demands of both college and high school coursework with grace and resilience.

A Celebration of Families and Futures

The event also recognized the vital role of family in each student’s success. Parents, guardians, and loved ones were honored for their unwavering support, sacrifice, and encouragement throughout their children’s academic journeys. In addition, current students who are on track to become dual graduates were invited to attend the ceremony. Witnessing their peers’ success served as a powerful source of motivation and a vivid reminder of what is possible through hard work and perseverance. It was a moment that bridged generations, celebrating the strength of family while planting seeds of aspiration in future graduates. The energy in the room was filled with pride, hope, and the shared belief that these milestones are not just personal victories, but community triumphs.

The Power of Showing Up

Throughout the event, Lead The Way students and families expressed sincere appreciation for the consistent presence and support of LTW staff. Whether through academic coaching, college guidance, or emotional encouragement, our team has been proud to walk alongside these students every step of the way.

We are incredibly proud of Vanessa, Montrea, and Chi-Lynn—not only for their remarkable academic achievements but for the powerful example they set for their peers, families, and communities. Their determination, discipline, and courage to take on a dual academic path while still in high school is a testament to their inner strength and vision for a brighter future.

These young leaders represent the very heart of what Lead The Way stands for: igniting potential, expanding opportunity, and equipping youth to walk boldly toward a life filled with purpose and impact. Their stories remind us that with the right support, belief in oneself, and the will to persevere, anything is possible.

As they take their next steps into higher education, we know they will continue to break barriers, uplift others, and serve as role models for generations to come. Their legacy is already forming, one rooted in excellence, leadership, and service. We celebrate their accomplishments and look forward to seeing all they will become. Continue to Lead The Way.....because the world needs your brilliance!
