Cornerstone High School Celebrates Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony x Trunk r’ Treat!

Thursday, October 24th, 2024

Cornerstone High School held a dual ribbon-cutting ceremony and Halloween Trunk r’ Treat event. The evening began with recognition of the high school homecoming court. Afterwards, the crowd heard comments from several Cornerstone Board and ACCEL school members, including Superintendent Brian Carlton, Pansophic CEO and Founder Ron Packard, and Senior Vice President of Operations at ACCEL Schools Dr. Natalee Long. Several partners were give shout-outs, including Lead the Way Learning Academy. Cornerstone High School’s own Marvelous Odukomaiya, senior and Student Council President, then officially cut the ribbon, and the marching band played the ceremony to a close.

Immediately after the ribbon cutting ceremony, Trunk r’ Treat began in full force. Fifteen cars opened their trunks, complete with spooky decorations, to hand out candy and a few included games for the many elementary school students in attendance. One of these games was run by the Inspireducation team: a Mood Scale Beanie Baby toss, where children would pick their favorite picture of a pet in costume, and aim to throw a Beanie Baby through the corresponding hole. When successful, the prize was candy and they got to keep the Beanie Baby!

Candy wasn’t the only option to snack on, as Trunk r’ Treat also featured two food trucks, cupcakes donated by Giant Eagle, and ice cream donated by Whit’s Frozen Custard. The students of Cornerstone showed their Halloween spirit in other ways as well! Many were in costumes, including numerous Spidermen and Spiderwomen, Minecraft Steve, Among Us, and Luigi from Super Mario Bros (Mario mysteriously nowhere to be found).

The scariest feature of the night was a haunted house set up in the high school gymnasium. High school students terrified anyone brave enough to enter.

One student who delighted in this job was senior Aisha Mohamud, whose costume of “half Venom, half the Joker,” was perfect for the role. Aisha said “It was so much fun! I was one of the first people they see… I was banging on pots and pans and using my flashlight” to disorrient the weary travelers. She did reassure that she helped any children that were too scared through the rest of the room.

We would like to give a huge shoutout to Cornerstone High School and their students for setting up such a fun night!
