Seniors at Cornerstone High School have been hard at work applying to four-year universities, community colleges, and trade programs. As they wrap up their applications, they’ve turned their focus to the next critical step: managing the cost of postsecondary education.
With the rising cost of college, Cornerstone seniors are taking proactive steps during Finance Week to create strategies for keeping their education affordable. Students have been learning how to build personal budgets that include contributions from themselves and their families while calculating a responsible amount of student loans. Additionally, they explored school websites to estimate the total cost of attendance, factoring in not only tuition and fees but also indirect costs such as transportation, technology, and other essentials.
To further alleviate financial burdens, students are actively applying for scholarships, ensuring they leave no stone unturned in reducing the cost of their education. This hands-on approach equips them with the tools and knowledge to make informed financial decisions as they prepare for college.
On Wednesday, November 20th, a group of 25 seniors and their parents attended InspirEducation’s FAFSA Workshop Night. During the session, participants learned the purpose of the FAFSA, its importance in securing financial aid, how to complete the application, and strategies for addressing common challenges. The workshop demystified the financial aid process, giving students and their families confidence as they take this important step in funding their education.
Reflecting on the week’s activities, a senior shared, “Learning to budget and calculate costs has been eye-opening. I feel more prepared to take control of my finances and make smart decisions about paying for college.”
Lead the Way is incredibly proud of Cornerstone seniors for tackling this critical part of the college journey with dedication and diligence. Their efforts now will pave the way for a successful and financially secure future.
