Monday, May 13, 2024

This week, Groveport-Madison High School (GMHS) students are engaging in career-focused activities. Each day this week will have a different focus today's focus was Healthcare.  This morning, LTWLA hosted guest speakers Alexis Knight, from VIP Staffing, and Rachel Muredzwa, from The Ohio State University (OSU), at GMHS. Rachel serves as the Director of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee at The Ohio State University College of Nursing. During her presentation, Ms. Muredzwa outlined the various nursing programs available at OSU, emphasizing her commitment to making education affordable for minority and marginalized youth in America. She also detailed scholarship opportunities and highlighted the opportunity for our youth to work full-time jobs as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) while receiving full tuition reimbursement at OSU.

Alexis Knight then shed light on VIP Staffing's offerings, including their STNA, Phlebotomy, and Medication Aide Training Program. She shared testimonials from previous participants, all of whom spoke highly of the program's benefits. Notably, this program offers compensation for LTWLA youth participating during the summer, providing them with valuable hands-on experience and a wage of $15 per hour.

Overall, this career day provided invaluable insights into the potential paths available to our youth both during the summer and beyond high school. LTWLAA's mission to empower youth with clarity, inspiration, drive, and opportunities for growth was clearly exemplified through the presentations. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the guest speakers for generously sharing their time and expertise, contributing significantly to our youth's career exploration journey.
