LTW x Cornerstone: CHS Explores Columbus State Community College

Over 26 juniors and seniors from Cornerstone High School participated in a field trip to Columbus State Community College (CSCC), where they gained valuable insight into the campus and the opportunities available. The day began with an informative session covering topics such as academic programs, cost of attendance, the application process, student life, and campus resources.

Following the session, students embarked on a guided walking tour of the campus. They observed a lively college environment, with current students transitioning between classes, enjoying lunch from on-campus food trucks, and socializing with their peers. The tour included key spots like the library, Student Central, the campus café, and various lecture halls.

For more than half of the students, this was their first college tour. Seven of our seniors have already applied to CSCC, making this visit an opportunity to decide if the campus is the right fit for them. Several seniors shared that the experience opened their eyes to college life and increased their excitement about potentially being on CSCC’s campus next year.

Sonya, a senior in the Lead the Way program, was particularly thrilled to be part of the experience. When asked if she was happy to attend, she responded enthusiastically, “Yes!” She noted that the school was much larger than she had anticipated and that she learned about numerous free services offered to students, including career services and student counseling.

The trip concluded back at Cornerstone High School, where students enjoyed time with their peers over chicken and fries from Raising Cane’s, provided by Lead the Way.

Special thanks to Cornerstone High School for providing transportation and for affording the Lead The Way and InspirEducation coaches an opportunity to plan a successful trip!
