Stronger Together: A Family Workshop on Resilience

Updated: Apr 25

Thursday April 10, 2025

On April 10, 2025, Lead The Way proudly hosted the latest installment of its Stronger Together: A Family Workshop on Resilience and Connection series at Groveport Madison High School. Led by long-time facilitator and family engagement specialist Amber Harris, the evening brought together families, caregivers, and students for an interactive and heartfelt exploration of what it means to be resilient—both individually and as a family unit.

Understanding Resilience Through Open Dialogue

The workshop opened with a panel discussion led by Amber Harris, inviting families to reflect on the different forms resilience can take in the face of life’s challenges. The conversation highlighted how adversity—when met with empathy, unity, and open communication—can actually strengthen the bonds between family members. Attendees were encouraged to share their perspectives and experiences in a safe, supportive space, reinforcing the idea that vulnerability and storytelling are key elements of resilience.

Practical Tools for Strengthening Family Connection

Throughout the session, families were introduced to practical strategies for navigating difficult conversations, managing conflict, and fostering emotional safety in the home. Amber and her panel emphasized the importance of "holding space"—being present and nonjudgmental—for those who are working through emotional or relational challenges. These tools offered attendees real-world approaches to support mental wellness, effective communication, and mutual understanding.

Interactive Activities to Build Communication and Problem-Solving Skills

The evening was not only informative but highly engaging. Families participated in hands-on activities and games designed to promote collaboration, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving. These moments allowed participants to strengthen their communication skills and build trust in a relaxed, playful environment.

The activities were carefully curated to support the workshop’s overall theme: that strong families are built on shared experiences, intentional communication, and collective problem-solving.

Celebrating Community and Shared Growth

To further celebrate the spirit of connection, the evening also included giveaways for attending families—a small token of appreciation for their time and participation. From start to finish, the event was a reflection of Lead The Way’s commitment to building stronger, more resilient communities through intentional family engagement and inclusive programming.

Looking Ahead

Lead The Way extends its deepest gratitude to Amber Harris, Groveport Madison High School, and all the families who took part in this meaningful workshop. Events like this underscore our mission to uplift, empower, and unite families and youth across Central Ohio.
