The Charles School and The Graham School youth of LTWLA partook in the BMI Federal Credit Union Financial Literacy Excursion where they immersed themselves in 6-12 key interactive workshops hosted at our headquarters.
The youth delved into topics such as:
Savings
Household Expenses
Transportation Costs
Childcare
Credit Card Usage
Utilities
Additional Expenses
Personal Care Expenses
They were assigned a specific career during the workshop and computed their monthly life expenses according to that salary. Throughout the workshop, the youth calculated all of their assigned responsibilities and had to imagine how or if they could incorporate fun expenses in their budget. This opportunity to understand the cost of living was made even more realistic by pairing it with their two-parent household with either 1 or 2 children. It was a helpful glimpse into what life could look like in the future, depending on their career choice.
The workshop was enlightening and provided the youth with valuable lessons on financial responsibilities and discerning between wants and needs within their budgetary boundaries. Thank you to the BMI team for the invaluable financial literacy education and assisting LTW in expanding the minds of our youth.
